Muslims: Are you required to respect Jesus, or do you just really respect him?

Yes it is a requirement to say peace be upon him. and the respect comes from our religion. Parts of the quran are devoted to the story of jesus and mary and they are praised in the quran. Sometimes quotes from jesus are mentioned in our mosques (where muslims pray) as well.
